I am determined that some foods are combined to compliment each other (like lemons accentuating the taste of fish, or something about the way sour cream, salsa, and guacamole enhance any Mexican meal) to create a synergistic affect. Others combinations, however, are designed purely to hide certain ingredients. I personally believe that zucchini bread is one of those things. No one eats zucchini bread and thinks, "mmmm that 4 pounds of sugar and butter REALLY bring out the natural flavors and essences of that zucchini!" It's more like, "mmmm, this is cake, but it has vegetables in it so I will tell myself that it's healthy."
What are some other foods you can think of that merely MASK or HIDE another food, or lull us into a false sense of nutritional security?

Yeah I totally agree with you on that zucchini thing - it's the same with zucchini strips at iceberg. Nobody thinks, "Hmm... I want some zucchini, only prepared in an original way - how about deep fat fried!" They think, "Iceberg has zucchini strips on the menu! I will be so healthy if I eat them, even though they are deep fried. Somebody should give me a medal."
Also, I think anybody who doesn't understand the almost indie-like sarcasm in my blog after seeing a picture of that magnitude doesn't deserve to get it anyway.
I think any cookie that has oatmeal in it is healthier. For instant no bake cookies. I always tell myself that because they contain oatmeal I can eat as many as I want. Oh and about the zucchini thing, my grandma puts them in some batter and fries them on the stove. They are delicious!!! I think whatever is good for the soul should be considered healthy...
I'm pretty sure that the reason you like carrot cake so much is because you've convinced yourself that it's a vegetable! Also, you don't know it, but every time I've ever made you a birthday cake I have put some secret ingredient in it - like a ground up onion or some smashed beets! Tricky eh? Who would suspect hidden vegetables on your actual birthday!?!
I like zucchini bread and cake, but I have to admit that licking the beater after making them is highly disappointing! Little strips of slimy batter-covered zucchini - not my best!
Also, I think you should know that someone who is famous (can't remember who - maybe a sports figure) has a wife who has written a cookbook about how to sneak nutrition into your kids food - stuff like squash in the macaroni and cheese. You should be glad that book wasn't around 16 years ago! (BTW, how DO you say that properly - "someone who's famous's wife?") Help, Ashley!
I will not sign my name to this, but make you figure it out from the context! :-)
Mom, (yes I know it is you).
I believe you are making this harder than it needs to be. You could just say, "a celebrity's wife." or "a famous person's wife."
Although I do like the awkward nature of the whole, "Someone who is famous has a wife" thing.
Love it.
I would like to say that I do have Seinfeld's wife's "Deceptively Delicious" cookbook that hides healthy stuff in food. I actually haven't tried anything yet because you have to puree stuff and I haven't made the time to do that...but anyway, I also think that fruit tarts are healthy for you since they have fruit. Granted the crust and the filling are all sugar... I am sure they must be heathier than brownies!!
I would also consider chocolate covered strawberries a healthy choice.
A favorite treat of mine is chocolate banana muffins (which are basically tiny cakes made in a muffin tin). But I tell myself that they have a fruit in them and they're called muffins, so they're a perfect breakfast food.
Amen to the grammar suggestion, Melissa. Another option could be "the wife of a famous person," since the wife is the one you're talking about.
By the way, your marquee/LED scroller thing is definitely extending way out to the side and blocking part of your posts. I would recommend putting it on the bottom. If you need help doing that, tell me.
So sorry for the long absence from visiting your blog. I would like to add my two favorite foods to your list: French fries (delicious potatoes) and chicken fingers (bread and chicken - what could be healthier?)But I guess I can justify eating pretty much anything.
