Lists: Should/Shouldn't

Welcome to a new feature of my blog. It is known as "Lists."

I love lists. I write out lists for everything. To-Do lists, People I Need to Write Thank You Notes To lists, Christmas Presents lists, Grocery Shopping lists, the lists go on and on. (Don't worry - I punched MYSELF in the face for that one already).

I guess you could say I am afraid of being listless. (What??? That is the worst pun I have ever heard! Including the one in the previous paragraph!)

Onward ho.

I've been thinking lately about things.

Big surprise.

Well, I have been thinking about things that I like, and things that I don't like.

There are many things that I really don't like that I probably should, and there are things that I do like, that I probably shouldn't. Mayhaps it will be cathartic/helpful/entertaining/important to confess these things to you, oh beloved blog reader.

Let's go.

Things I don't like that I probably should:

1) Being a social young adult. I would much rather sit alone at home with hot chocolate and a good book (or some Jimmy Fallon) than go out playing with friends all the time. Also - I would rather just sit and talk than actual GO OUT and do something. I mean, I do enjoy hanging out with good friends, but I definitely couldn't do it every night. Man, I'm lame.

2) Babies. I think we've been over this. It's not that I don't think they should exist, I mean, I understand that that is pretty important for the human race. However, I don't enjoy them. I would never clamor to get to hold one of them or voluntarily spend time with one. No thank you. "Glad I never was one." (name that movie)

3) EFY/Seminary Music. Yes, I know that this makes me a pretty terrible person, but I just HATE that style of music. GAH. I love hymns, and I love classical music, and those are both things that are appropriate for a church setting, yes? Don't give me anything that sounds like this because I will hate it. The songs are terrible and the voices and styles are even worse.

4) Wearing pants.

5) Taking Showers. Don't worry - I DO it, I just think of them more as a necessary evil than something to be enjoyed. I am such a worrier than when it's cold in the morning, I don't look forward to the hot shower ahead of me, rather, I dread how cold it will feel when I have to get OUT of the shower. I think this says a lot about me. ha. At least I know Jen is on my side for this one.

Things I like/love that I probably shouldn't:

1) Leonard Nimoy and Patrick Stewart. Theme? They are two of my favorite old men. It's not so much that I would like to be in a romantic relationship with them (which would be pretty disturbing) I just LOVE them. Which is weird because 99% of old people in this world scare me slash make me feel uncomfortable.

2) News/Talk radio. I'm not TOO obsessed with this one - at least I don't listen to NPR all day long, but I do really enjoy KSL. I would rather listen to a news report than a music station.

3) Memorizing things. I know - it's weird. I guess it is helpful in my line of work - memorizing the top 200 brand and generic drugs came relatively easy. I also had to memorize most of the periodic table for a chemistry class this past semester and it was easily my favorite assignment in all of college. When I found the website called "study blue" I basically had a heart attack of joy. 140 religious terms DOWN in less than a week. Click here for an example and tell me it's not the coolest website of all time.

4) Blood. I don't, like, DRINK it.... but I think that it is fascinating. Not to get too philosophical/religious on you, but I love that blood is a uniquely mortal thing. It is so... real, and so full of life. It makes us vulnerable and it makes us strong. I think that donating blood is INCREDIBLE - is there a more precious gift you can give another human? No way José. So cool.

5) The smell of cigarette smoke. I don't love the way clothes smell when they get smoke on them, or the way beards/teeth/mouths smell (thank you, men at the pharmacy that nearly make me pass out), but I love the smell of it in the AIR as I walk past quickly.

Whelp - there you go. Do you agree with any of these? Are you completely disgusted with me because I don't like showering? Do you think I'm creepy because I think blood is cool? Please do let me know.

Cheers.

Your life is gonna turn out.

Erm... hello. Long time no blog.

I could make excuses. I could talk about how busy I've been with work and school. I could whine about my personal problems, I could say the phrase, "bear with me." But I won't. Mostly because I HATE it when people say "so please just bear with me." GAH!

Anyway, I have been thinking about something lately called...

EXPECTATIONS

Paul McCartney was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (my latest married-celebrity crush) last week, and it was a great episode all around. He talked about remembering John Lennon, and even sang a duet with Jimmy called Scrambled Eggs.

Anyway, when Jimmy was introduced Sir Paul, he explained that as long as he could remember, Paul McCartney was his favorite singer/songwriter, and that he couldn't believe that he was getting to interview him. He got a little sentimental (*tender*) and said, "If somehow my 15-year-old self is watching this.... just know that your life is gonna turn out pretty great."

I am a little scared to think how my 15-year-old self would have wanted my life to turn out. In order to satisfy her hopes and dreams, I would probably have to be married to Gerard Butler and starring opposite him as Christine on Broadway. My 16-year-old self would have preferred being best friends with Michael Jackson (or maybe just seeing one of his shows - I wasn't completely unreasonable). My 17-year-old self longed to be a back-up singer for Mika.

Now? Who knows.

It's not that I'm lost, it's not that I'm not obsessive and annoyingly passionate about things, but I don't know exactly what I want to happen. And more - I don't think I want to know everything that will happen.

Lately I have been working on giving up control. It's terrifying. It's hard. It's liberating.

But I'm working on it.

Maybe that's what it means to grow up.

Anyway - forgive the inappropriately serious talk. I want to hear what things your 15-year-old self would have wanted to have happen!

What would your life have to be like now, to be able to tell yourself,

"Your life is gonna turn out pretty great"

?

My, how responsible you are!

I recently woke from the weirdest dream of my life. Which is really saying something.

I was inexplicably pregnant (approximately 8 months along) and when I gave birth (which literally did not hurt at all - I was like, "What? Everyone that whines about this is a WUSS") it was definitely a kitten. An adorable kitten, obviously, but a kitten. Which, of course, wasn't weird at all.

My friend Kelsey stepped up to the plate to be a parental figure for the thing, even though she hates cats, and was really mad at me for getting knocked up. I decided that since she was being so nice and supportive, I would let her help name the kitten (a girl). We could NOT agree on a name because I was suggesting normal, well-thought-out names, and she wanted to name it things like "Jackalina" or "Jasonette."

At one point it really hit me - I am a mother. I am going to have to be there for her when she is a teenager and gets her heart broken! It's my responsibility to make sure she has a fun, rewarding childhood!

Then I went back to being a terrible mother. I made her a little bed with a towel in a drawer in a plastic storage thing, and kept her in there for like 20 hours a day. Every time I opened that door, though, she was bright-eyed and ready to play. It was great.

The worst part? Throughout all of it, the two biggest things on my mind were

1) "I really need to name her so that I can send out a mass text announcing her birth!"
2) "Whoa I just had a BABY! I wonder if I can get an extension on my midterms!"

So there you have it. Perhaps it is a sign that I really need to graduate from school before having children (kitten, human, or otherwise).

Interpretations, please!!

I don't believe in coincidences

Could I have been put in a better ward here at BYU??

Check out this e-mail I just got:

Hey everyone! Part of our Halloween party next week is going to be a "Thriller" dance off competition! Best Michael Jackson impersonation (or best dancer) wins! In order to help you prepare for this epic event, we have included the instructions for the dance. Some of the moves are a little cryptic so we have also included a youtube clip with the dance. Be sure to pass on this information to your roommates and have fun learning! We can't wait to see everyone bust a move next Thursday night!

Dance Instructions:

1) Begin by writhing on the floor. (OK maybe not this part)

2) Zombie march (right, left, right left)

3) March-booty-swim (shoulder Shrug, booty bounce and the swim).

4) Shuffle-ha-slide (hop, stare, clap and slide)

5) Hip n' roar (hip swivel, stomps, shake-it-and-a-uppa stomp)

6) Wuz up 1-2-3

7) Shuffle-ha-slide

8) Oh snap, air guitar, pull, punch

9) Head n' shoulders swivels

10) Stomp (left, left, right, left, left, right)

-The Activities Committee

Isn't that wonderful? I love the attempted explanations of the dance moves.

P.S. I pretty much hate Halloween.

Query

I have a Q4U (<--- no! Don't leave my blog because you think I'm immature and illiterate! I'll try not to let lame abbreviations ever slip off of my fingers again)

Is it possible to just give one condolence? I mean jeez, I don't always want to give enough to say that I'm giving condolencES.

I don't feel THAT bad about your fish.

What are your thoughts?

9.16.2010

Temptation

I've never owned a gaming system (other than a computer). It just wasn't something that my family did. I've always been glad of it - it gives me some sort of... defiant pride to tell people that I don't have an x-box, playstation, OR nintendo.

But I think that this has sewn the seeds of a big ol' jealousy plant right in my heart.

If I had extra money and time....

Isn't that awesome?? For real. Look how much FUN that blonde chick is having!

9.12.2010

My Brown Eyes:

They betray me.

The dam guarding my reservoir of tears crumbles far too often.

They look for things I'm trying not to see

and stare too long when I want to look away.

They expose my heart when I put up a façade -

Flash fear when I'm trying to be strong

and let escape a shimmer of amusement when I should be reproachful.

They are truth-tellers in a world where I need to lie.

That's why I should always wear sunglasses.

Cat Cafe

To quote my fictional doppelganger, Liz Lemon, "I want to go to there!"

Check out Colormekatie's latest post:

I love it!

Anyone have tickets to Japan they'd be willing to trade, or better yet, barter? I can crochet a MEAN hotpad, and really, how can you put a price on that?

9.01.2010

I "got" another one

Just like when I "got" the words rainbow and cooperate... today I "got" another word.

Ready?

Correspond.

I think it's cute how our words relate to each other.

8.30.2010

The Big Five Two

Saturday at work I informed my coworkers that the next day was Michael Jackson's birthday.

Nice of me, right? Who would want to miss THAT?

Well, simultaneously one said,

"He's dead."

and the other,

"No one cares."

Not letting the negative comments affect her, our heroine proceeded to celebrate anyway.

I made a birthday cake (no black and white symbolism here, just straight up funfetti*) and we sang and blew out imaginary birthday candles.

I think he would be pleased.

*"Because he's fun, but he's ALSO like... Confetti!" - Sarah

P.S. Check out my sweet new MJ bling! It arrived just in time

Add a dash of stupidity

Lately I've been trying to only say positive things. I realized that many of my posts are whining about things/people/customs that annoy me.

Well, maybe I'll become Mother Theresa some day, but for today...

I have something negative to say.

I love to cook (mostly bake), and I find and try new recipes all the time. Thanks to Katie who introduced me to this terribly addicting site, my summer has been filled with much experimentation.

For the most part, this has been a wonderfully rewarding thing! But between all the cooking sites I frequent, and reading through our many cookbooks, I've discovered certain annoyances when it comes to recipes.

I've listed and expounded upon my grievances below (for your convenience)

1) Don't call a recipe "Homemade _________". For example, "Homemade Chocolate Cake" or "Homemade Stir Fry". Seriously? Hello - I KNOW I'm making homemade cookies - since I'm LOOKING UP A RECIPE FOR THEM INSTEAD OF BUYING THEM AT THE GROCERY STORE. Geez Louise. I guess they're trying to clarify and distinguish themselves from the cretins who submit... (see number two)

2) Recipes for things that don't require recipes. It's annoying. I'm pretty sure that if I bought a tube of biscuits (you know, the kind that scare the bejeebus out of you as they produce a minor nuclear explosion when you break the seal) - I would be able to GUESS that I should put them on a cookie sheet and bake them in the oven. And you know what else? If for some reason I couldn't figure that out, the kind folks at EVERY PACKAGING COMPANY IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE have included instructions right there on the tube! So... Mary L.* from Norfolk, VA** - it was completely pointless of you to send that in, and quite a stretch to call it a "recipe."

3) Don't create/submit a recipe for something that takes normal food and makes it look like something I don't want to eat. For an example, click here. Alright, eating eggs is risky enough. I don't want to dress them up as what could have been! Gross! You don't see people making pig-shaped bacon sculptures! Or discussing dirty sweaty udders while drinking a cup of milk! For some things, it's just better to not think about where they came from.

4) Please be either plain or creative when it comes to your recipe names. But don't cop out and name it after someone. If I see another "Russ' Favorite Stew" or " Jennifer's Pumpkin Cookies" I will go find a puppy somewhere and punch it in the throat.*** On that note, however, don't do what I'm about to whine about in number 5.

5) Don't use qualifying words in your recipe title. In my ward cookbook there is a certain submitter who is a very nice woman, but whose recipe names make me want to hurl a grenade at her face.*** Every single recipe of hers has the word "yummy" "good" or "delicious" in the title. "Yummy Potatoes" "Delicious Cherry Pie" "Really Good Carrots" - it is ridiculous. I kid you not, one of her recipes is called "Yum Yum Chicken". BARF.

Whelp - there you have it. I'm apparently in a mean-spirited mood, but seriously - those things are annoying!!

*Name was made up
** Location was made up
*** exaggeration

Exactly HOW popular is that search?

Auto-complete, you complete ME.

One of my favorite kind of fails. You just have to wonder how many people have actually looked these things up.

Here are a few (several) of my favorites:

I decided that I wanted in on the fun so I tried some of my own:

^I guess those are my only options!

^my favorite thing about this one: how would anyone ever come up with a number for that? For ANY of those?

Decent. Not the funniest I've seen, but not bad.

The very greatest thing? (hint - this is where YOU come in).

Try doing it will your own name and see if you get anything interesting. You may be surprised with how well google knows you. :)

(for the record, I am NOT doing that, but oh man that is funny)

The Loneliest Generation

Hello. May I tell you a long, complicated story using multiple hyperlinks to illustrate my points?

Thank you.

So, one time, a girl mentioned this band on her blog.

Their name is Harper Blynn. Here is their myspace music page.

They just released their first album in May, and despite the horrifically creepy album artwork, it is GREAT music.

Watch them perform LIVE in Brooklyn:

Jen, I like to think that you were there, watching :)

See? Do you SEE how good they are? Even live.

Maybe it's because the lead singer/guitarist looks like Dr. Jack Hodgins from Bones -

or maybe it's because the accordion player looks like Daniel Faraday from LOST -

but their charm overwhelms me.

You can also see their very first MUSIC VIDEO (released just this morning!) here

What do you think? Do you LIKE them?

7.19.2010

The definition of jealously.

Have you ever wanted a piece of clothing so badly that you actually ACHE for it??

7.16.2010

Righteous + Spoof = Ri-choof!

I'm sure everyone that goes to BYU who reads this blog (and probably many others) have already seen this, as it was VIRAL yesterday on facebook, but I thought I'd share it here.

You are all familiar with the Old Spice commercials that are so ingenious. I feel comfortable using this blanket statement because the only people that HAVEN'T seen them are from outer space, and I don't have any friends from outer space.

So.

This is a BYU parody of those old spice commercials, promoting the Harold B. Lee Library on BYU campus (or the HBLL, because we mormons like to abbreviate/acronymate the heck out of everything)

PLEASE enjoy.

I'd like to find this person and....

marry him :)

7.15.2010

Obsessive

Okay, so we all know about my sleep/sheet issues - and many of you responded, sharing your own little habits, which comforted me immensely. Lately, though, I've been getting even WEIRDER with my sleepy time needs. Maybe it's because it's summertime in Utah and therefore unbelievably hot.... but I'm not sure.

ANYWAY.

Lately I've been very dependent on some good ol' fashioned white noise. My choice? A fan. And because I'm a big believer in aromatherapy (false - I'm just trying to make it so I don't sound so dang weird!) I put some B&BW wild honeysuckle room oil on a cotton ball, and stick it into the front of my fan, and then all night long I can sniff softly and be slowly soothed into a sweet sleep (I tried really hard, there).

I've also been getting pickier about what I will and won't wear to sleep. Flannel pajamas are, of course, simply out of the question... but lately... wearing pants or shorts at ALL seems like some sort of punishment.

So what are some more of your rituals? Have you evolved over the years? Or even over the summer?

7.01.2010

Half Way

One year ago today, my friend Jordan...

left to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is serving in Santo Domingo - the capital city of the Dominican Republic.

He is doing some great things, and from what I've heard, he is happy and working hard.

I'm glad he's doing well - but I can't wait for him to come home. BYU is way more fun when he's there. :)

Happy Anniversary!

6.27.2010

Do I have a problem?

I watched a documentary.

That's not that weird - I love learning, and I love movies! It's natural.

What's weird is that I watched a documentary on The Doors -

not because I'm a huge fan (although Morrison was pretty cute)

but because Johnny Depp was the narrator.

Oh dear.

Yum

6.25.2010

To whom it may concern

Dear Michael Jackson,

So, I guess it's been a year now.

One year since I heard the news.

It was sad to think about what could have been on the would-be opening night of your London o2 Arena tour. Especially sad because it was going to be the first time your children got to see you perform.

I know they would have liked that.

It was better when the This Is It movie came out! Everyone talked about how great it was - even the haters couldn't deny that you still had it! I saw it 4 times in the theaters, going with different groups of friends each time. You converted some, entertained ALL, and I got to revel in your greatness with some of the most devoted MJ fans I've ever met. :) Even though you probably would have been embarrassed by how personal the movie was, I think it was important that we got to see glimpses of the real you! People sometimes need to be reminded that you are a real person, and not just an icon - that you died a legend, but LIVED as a human with your own ambitions and feelings.

Your death was both tragic and healing.

I’m sad that your children won’t get to continue growing up with their dad. (The world felt a collective heartbreak as Paris explained that you were “the best Dad anyone could ask for” at your funeral.) I’m sad that you couldn’t see your upcoming tour through – that would have made so many people’s dreams come true. Mostly I’m sad that it took your death for people to be nice.

But you’ve gained lots of fans posthumously. That’s good! And because of all the publicity, lots of people have become more aware of all your charitable contributions! So that’s good too.

Even though the situation surrounding your death was less than ideal, I think you’re better off now. I think you’re life was painful in a lot of ways. So now should be a sweet release!

Despite those fictitious rumors in the early 2000’s that you had converted to Islam, it’s come forward since you’re death that you were a devout Christian to the end. It comforts me now to think that you are resting. I genuinely believe that you are in an ethereal place where you are free from mortal pain.

I can’t wait to meet you someday! It’s cheesy to say, but I really am looking forward to it.

Thank you for sharing your music, message, love, and smile with us. The world is better place because you were in it, and isn’t that what we’re all hoping to accomplish with our own lives?

Forever your fan, someday your friend,

Melissa

xoxo

What were YOU thinking???

I stumbled across THIS INSANELY SPECIFIC BLOG today.

I just have a couple questions

1) WHY????

and

2) Is there really a following here?

What do you think? Am I making too big of a deal out of this? I just think it's a weird topic!

6.18.2010

No more

I used to have a separate dream blog. Then (as in, 45 seconds ago) I decided that that was stupid.

The dreams that I deem funny enough to post at all, are CERTAINLY funny enough for THIS guy (blog).

So I'm going to be recycling those old dream posts as I see fit.

Hey now, don't be MAD! I'm RECYCLING! Don't you want to save the earth? Should I call you BP? You should all be applauding me.

Anyway.

Today's post is an ORIGINAL, never-before-seen dream that my brain conjured up in the early hours of the morning. I remember them best when I wake up in the middle of them. It's probably science or something.

Ready set go

I had a dream that somehow Toy Story 3 got leaked, and showed up on my TV! We all gathered as a family to watch it, because HEY! It's Toy Story 3! Never mind that we could go to an actual theater to watch it. It was the past in my dream, and we didn't want to have to wait until it was released in theaters!

So as we were watching it, we realized that a more appropriate title for the movie would be "Monsters Inc. 2" seeing as how it was actually a Monsters Inc. sequel, not a Toy Story threequel. (That's okay, brain! At least you recognized that they're both Disney/Pixar!)

It was not lighthearted or jovial, as was the first movie. No, this was a sad, gloomy tale about the now-16-year-old (yes, my brain apparently has problems with math, too) "Boo" who has SEVERE social/mental problems.

It was so sad to see her go from this

Adorable

to this

rough approximation

The story unfolded to chronicle the repercussions of claiming to see monsters and having adventures with them. Her parents had farmed her off to a crazy house. She was too crazy, and was sent back home. So they kept her locked up in her bedroom, and she went berzerk, drawing pictures of Mike Wazowski and "Kitty" - grasping at fragments/figments from her mind's eye.

It was tragic.

Also, she had a retainer. Not quite sure why her parents would have paid for braces... but hey. The rest doesn't make much sense either.

6.11.2010

Save the whales, but indulge

I’m all for saving the earth.

I like it quite a bit.

“I literally don’t know where I’d be without it.” (haha, gibe at mormon clichés)

I try to do my part by recycling, using high efficiency appliances, conserving electricity, and not spilling millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf Coast.

At my house, we’ve always had low-volume shower heads. I think they’re great and I totally plan on buying them and using them in my own house someday.

BUT (and it’s a big one)

Whenever I’m on vacation, at a hotel, or visiting my grandma (like right now)...

I don’t let the inefficient shower head make me feel guilty.

I enjoy every SECOND of those massage-like showers.

I’ve concluded that every once in a while,

it’s a nice treat.

Fun with language

I may have just stumbled upon the greatest webpage of the past century EVER.

It is what's known as, an anagram generator.

It will probably change your life.

Some of my favorites so far (aka the 5 minutes I've known of its existence) are:

Melissa Broekhuijsen = A Bee Rejoins Mush Silk (true! - it DOES rejoin mush silk!)

I work at Target = Gator Wart Kite

&

Michael Jackson = Nacho Jack Smile

And although submitting: "I am Lord Voldemort" didn't give the answer I was expecting, it was entertaining nonetheless: Immortal Odd Lover.

My favorite from their hall of fame collection:

The United States Bureau of Fisheries = I Raise the Bass to Feed Us in the Future

^ isn't that great?

See for yourself. Check it out here.

Be prepared for hilarious results - what are some of YOUR favorite answers?

Edamame Sleepover

A recent trip to Spark with two of my favorite ladies convinced us that we needed more edamame in our lives.

Plans were made, recipes were both created, found, and modified, ingredients were purchased, and a sleepover was born. It was a strong baby - mother(s) and child are all doing fine, thank you for asking.

Check out the baby pictures below:

Britt makes cooking while attractive look EASY

yes, that is bacon. But don't worry, we made it healthy by adding brown sugar

the final products!

Top left: Olive oil and parmesan cheese
Bottom left: Bacon brown sugar
Middle: lemon & salt
Bottom right: Garlic teriyaki
Top right: discard bowl, of course!

So, no. In this case, edamame was not a health food.

But it was healthy to our tongues!

Thanks Amy & Britt for a lovely night!

I have issues

This confession is hardly a surprise.

However.

The insanity runs even deeper than you might think.

I have problems with beds. Not all beds, just all beds that aren't mine.

You see, I can't sleep in sheets.

There. I've said it. Bring out the pitchforks.

People think I'm crazy, but I just can't stand feeling constricted!

So, I sleep on top of the fitted sheet, flat sheet, thin blanket, and quilt/comforter, and under a completely different blanket.

I guess if I wanted to get real fancy I could always try to coordinate the top blanket to at least MATCH my top quilt. But I'm not there yet.

In all my journeyings (which, admittedly, mainly involve traveling back and forth between a mere 20 miles or so) I've only met one other soul that shares my sheety problem. And even he just sleeps on top of his sheets, but under his top quilt.

I just can't handle it.

A couple years ago, in the dorms, I tried to sleep under sheets. I really did. But I had a minor panic attack and had to get up (after laying awake for what seemed like an eternity but was most likely about 12 minutes) and dramatically make my bed, then triumphantly sleep ON TOP OF everything. It was like taking a cool, cleansing, fire-sqaulming breath after being held underwater, fruitlessly gasping for air to no avail.

Wow.

So do YOU have any sleeping issues? Any OCD tendencies when it comes to your bedding?

New Project

Hello, all!

I have decided to start up another project - in addition to this one, no worries.

It is called, a DAILY HAIKU BLOG!

I've been playing a hefty amount of haiku game with my family and friends lately, and (with the inspiration of this guy and his blog) decided to make my own - an effort to more permanently preserve the little ditties I encounter. Also, it will be cranially stimulating for everyone involved.

It's a little... plain-jane right now, but don't you fret, I'll spice her up in no time.

It will be a compilation of funny, poignant, cute, weird, and thought-provoking haikus that are dear to my little heart. Some will be written by me, some as a joint family effort, and some from outside sources/guest authors (I try to be fair, you know?)

Anyway, check her out:

Topic suggestions are welcome - hope you enjoy!

5.22.2010

People are cute

I've been thinking lately.

You know how sometimes animals are cute? Well I think that sometimes humans can be cute too.

Like... when we hug. That is cute of us! Who invented that?

Also... when we make cute food.

Also... when we say cute things. Like "My foot fell asleep!"

What? That's adorable! Instead of saying, "The circulation in my foot has steadily decreased to the point where the nerves are firing rapid signals to my brain" we say that it simply fell asleep!

That is really cute of us.

What have YOU noticed about us (humans, of course) that you think is cute?

Really look at it.

Now look at it again.
