Personal Growth

Have you ever seen those shows where people face their fears to become a better person? I'm not talking about Fear Factor where stupid people eat and/or lay in gross things for the chance to win money, I'm talking about intervention-type shows where people who have irrational (or sometime even rational) fears challenge themselves to FACE them in the hopes that they can improve themselves and become better/stronger people. Well my friends - yesterday I did just THAT (minus the "being broadcast on network television" part).

I went to the Monte L. Bean Museum with a couple friends after lunch yesterday. It is a favorite place of mine (despite a somewhat rocky history) and I wanted to spread the joy to Jordan and Mike, who, until that point were Bean Museum virgins.

Because my monkey fears exist, and I am not subtle, both knew about my severe distain for Satan's spawn. So when we passed the first baboon (on the first floor, by the water buffalo and hippo, you know?) I just played it cool: slight intake of breath, but no audible reaction. By the time we were upstairs by the dik-dik heads and porcupine, however, I was getting a little freaked out. The boys convinced me to "kiss" the mounted baboon head. I was reluctant at first, but how often would I get the chance? Mike started stroking the baboon's face, which didn't help, but it was better than the "ooh-ooh-ahh-ahh" they'd been teasing me with before. Jordan was kind enough to capture the moment.

(Holy - that was a way long explanation... I mostly just wanted to show you THIS hardcore picture) Please notice how menacingly growly that stupid monkey was. I was very scared and it took me a full minute to get THIS close to him.

Also, just for the record: it felt like slash WAS a lot closer than it looks. This makes it look like I was not in breathing range of that guy, which I WAS.
